With this very old platform (circa 2009, DDR2 based) and low end parts, the best that you can do is max out the RAM, install an SSD and on the new drive install the newest O/S (Win8.1x64).

However, even with all these upgrades, the performance of the system overall will be less than half of a platform like an Asus T100TA.

    See:
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2301&cmp[]=665

    See:
    http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX53053

And, it may cost you even more to buy and put together than simply buying a newer platform.

Note that I'm not recommending the T100TA for you. Just comparing it to a low end modern platform today to show you what you can get for the price of the upgrades you might be considering.

Others here may possibly suggest upgrading the cpu. But my recommendation would not change. The cpu will simply increase the cost of the upgrade and would not negate the need for the other upgrades I suggested above.

Save up your money for a new(er) platform. Sell this one as is (in working condition) to minimize your cost for the new system.

    Good luck.

Junixs, you can upgrade CPU to any 800MHz FSB Socket-P CPU, up to T9500; if you are lucky and have GM45 instead of GL40 motherboard, then any dual-core 1066MHz FSB CPU all the way up to T9900/X9100; memory to 2x4GB DDR2; replace ODD with another HDD/SDD in ODD bay. But I recommend not to waste your money on it.

If you can get by with it, just use it as is. Celeron should be able to handle web browsing and word processing just fine.
