    Hey guys,

I'm considering purchasing some RAM for my Compaq Presario SR1030AN. I did a quick scan of my computer and it came up with these results. Looking at the results my PC handles DDR PC2700 RAM. I'm most likely going to purchase RAM from a swap meet. Can anyone inform me of anything I need to consider when purchasing RAM, or do I simply just say I want 2 GB DDR PC2700 RAM? and how will I know if they give me the right one?

    Thanks

If your laptop came with PC2700, then that's probably the optimal, but any speed of DDR memory will do. Just make sure you specify that you're looking for laptop memory.

Thanks for the quick reply CW. I'm browing ebay at the moment, just to look for prices out of curiousity. One that caught my eye was 1GB PC2700 333Mhz DDR 333 Mhz 184PIN 1 GB G 1024MB NEW . What does this mean, exactly? It says 1GB then says 1024 MB? (I understand that mean's a little over one GB) but why does it say two sizes? And what is the significance of Mhz and PIN?

The guy's just putting in a ton of keywords so his item will show up on more searches. It's just redundant info. PC2700 is just another way of saying 333MHz (one references the actual memory clock speed, the other references the memory bandwidth at a given clock speed), and 184 pin indicates, well, that it has 184 pins (and all DDR laptop memory has 184 pins).

Eh? I thought most laptops used 200 pin SO-DIMMs, with 184 pin DIMMs being desktop memory?
