Can the Compaq Presario v2555us use pc3200 ram?
The v2555us comes with two sticks of 256mb pc2700.
I tried calling HP and using their online tech support, both to no avail. Seems like they don't even know about the product they sell.
All I got was a url to a service manual that says it's for v2000 compaqs, except it's all for intel based notebooks.
Sincerely, Severely frustrated v2555us owner!

Check the site of either corsair or kingston. They will tell you the right memory for your laptop. just note that pc 3200 offer only mild boost compared to pc 2700 (you would not even notice it).. If you want to boost your notebook by upgrading ram i reccommend upgrading it with 1 gig+ of memory (768 if you are in budget). Remember not to mix memory with different cas latency.. it will surely give you headache!
one more, you can look at compaq site and download the manual of your laptop (if you don't have one). If the manual tells you that you can upgrade your ram using pc 2100 and higher. you can be sure that pc 3200 will work
by the way what's your processor? -
My v2555us has a sempron 3000+.
I have tried to get a product manual for the v2555us via the hp website to no avail.
I cannot find an appropriate manual for my laptop.
I wound up buying crucial pc2700 ram 2.5 cas latency, same latency as the installed ram.
From what I can remember about the sempron, it's integrated memory controller only supported up to 333mhz ram. But, again, I cannot find any direct info to confirm this. Of course, my patience in searching the web is very limited, so that may be the reason I cannot find much information in either case. -
i searched your notebook at compaq site and lo and behold i found your product manual.

TO be safe, just buy ram with the sam specs preinstalled in your notebook.
