    Hello guys,

I have an old Compaq Presario 1700 laptop with a crashing HDD. The screen on my laptop would turn off during regular tasks such as Internet browsing and the only thing I can do is to do a forced reboot. At first I thought the machine was still on, because the power light was still on, but one time I was listening to music and with the screen turning off the music stopped playing too, even though the power light is still on. The specs are listed in my sig.

Has anyone experienced anything like that?

Have you tried replacing your hard drive?

Is the system overheating? Has it been cleaned recently?
