I have an Asus laptop and I wanna upgrade my CPU. Here is the page for it since I'm feeling a little lazy to type specs
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...lack/9556125.p?id=1218124208054&skuId=9556125
I wanted to know if this would be compatible with my laptop if I were to upgrade
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111015
I am asking because I don't want to buy it and then find out I can't even do the upgrade.
Thanks

Worstbuy link doesn't work, you'll have to type your specs.
What I am going to say is if you have a Core 2 series processor, you can not put in a Core i7. -
*kills self* Thanks.
Can I upgrade to a better Core 2 processor? -

Would a Core 2 Quad not work either? -
It's possible that a Core 2 Quad would work. That notebook sounds like a G72 or a G71, and while some of those did come with a Q9000, Worstbuy is probably up to their usual hijinks again and has probably gimped this machine. A Core 2 Quad is not a recommended upgrade anyway unless your CPU already runs nice and cool. The extra heat put off from the 45 Watt processor is probably more than the cooling system could handle if it already idles and loads fairly high. However, a P9700 is a safe upgrade for sure, assuming you have the P8700, and you could probably put in a T9900.

The best, 100% for-sure CPU would be the T9900. A Q9000 might work, but don't bet on it.

moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
For most games you're better off with the T9900 than a Q9000.

An X series would work would it not? A dual core version at least.

it would but it would overheat... anyways a T9900 can be OCed better... Q9000 might work or not but from the looks of this notebook , its an Asus G71 or G72... which are sold with quad cores... i would jump and get a Q9000... if it worked , it would be a super upgrade... if it doesn't , just return and get a T9900.
