Can pc3200 RAM run at full speed (200 MHz) on my laptop with FSB=400 MHz or NOT? Conditions apply***

*** Two answers allowed only –YES or NO plus explanation. Two attempts per user only.
Laptop model: Samsung X15plus. RAM module: Corsair VS1GSDS400, max bandwidth: pc3200 (200MHz); CPU-Z reading – processor: Pentium M725 Dothan; Core speed: 1595MHz; Multiplier: x16; Bus speed: 99.7MHz; FSB: 398.8MHz; Current RAM Timings table – frequency: 166MHZ; CAS# latency 2.5; RAS# to CAS#:3; RAS# precharge: 3; Tras: 7; Winner(s) will be highly recognised (by me for sure). Once completed, decision is final and there is no guarantee for similar competition in the future.

from what i can research, the answer is no. it uses pc 2700 max (333 mhz ram) so 166.7 mhz when run in dual channel. so while you can put in 400mhz ram, it will run at 333mhz.

Well in AMD laptops you can use a program called A64Tweaker and you can force pc2700 ram to run at pc3200 speeds (166 to 200MHz).

I did this in my Turion64 system that came with pc2700 ram. Put in 3200 ram and got it working at the right speed.

I don't get this thread. This is a "help people with their laptop questions and problem solve" forum, not a "compete to see who's smartest" forum.

Who are you to step in and "recognize" us? We make our names by the answers we give, and the people who have been here a while know who's answers are reliable, but each individual has their own expertise, and even a new guy can have valid input. We don't need to be competing with each other rather, we work together.

I'm having a slightly different issue with my ram speed, but my answer to your question is no.

If you use ram that's faster than the chipsets offical supported speed, you'd be overclocking the chipset, which carries some risks, expecially in laptops.

You could try to get clockgen working on your laptop to get the ram running faster, but just so you know, you'd then be running the CPU and motherboard beyond their specs and you're risking damaging your equipment.
