Well, since I am Canadian I plan to buy a laptop from Eurocom. Now, I can guarantee myself a 10% discount with their trade-in-program if I bring in my old PC. So if I have a computer configured for $2000, that means I get $200 off. :D

So, I want to have great components and take everything out that I will not use. Here is a list of things that I can take off from the notebook to save money and I am hoping if you can tell me if I need this component or not. If I do, please state why.

For the memory, I want 4GB of it. There are 2 types that Eurocom offers and they are 4GB DDR3- 1333 and 4GB DDR3- 1066. Now, the one with the 1333 bus is $120 more then the 1066 bus. Is the speed improvment worth the extra $120?

Is an ExpressCard Adapter a necessity in a notebook computer? I have no idea what an ExpressCard is! HELP! :p

Is an Wireless Card a necessity in a notebook computer?

Is Bluetooth a necessity in a notebook computer?

Hope you guys can help, thank you,
    Hermes.

#1 ? No 1333 bus I know about on a 1066 FSB? And no it is not worth it. 800Mhz RAM might be faster than both because of CL!
#2 No but I would get.
#3 To 90% of the people who buy notebooks yes. It is how you connect and stay mobile.
#4 No but seems fun and what costs $20? But no not needed. One rule of thumb on this only? If you have to ask you don't need.

The 1066 is great, I wouldn't up it to the 1333.

The express card adapter will be useful for expansion later, say you want to add extra USB ports or one of those old serial ports, but I don't think you need to buy one unless you need some port the laptop doesn't have.

You'll probably want a wireless card, but you could theoretically buy one yourself and put it in later if you want. You could even get an expresscard version probably if you don't mind something sticking out the side of your laptop.

Bluetooth is nice if you have other equipment that uses it. I still don't so I don't have it in my laptop. The one thing with the bluetooth is that I don't think it's super simple to put an internal bluetooth module in yourself. I'm not sure though.

If you had to skimp, keep the wireless and lose the rest.

To utilise the max bandwidth of the ram, install 4GB DDR3-1066 in single channel mode with a 266MHz FSB CPU..!!

    hahaha, bad bad Andy.

As for the expresscard expansion, if you expect to get a tv-tuver or a sound card, get it.

    266*32 = 1066*8 = 8.512GB/s
    8.512*2 = 17.07GB/s (Divider = 0.50)
