Hello. I plan to buy a Compal FL90 barebone and now I'm thinking what components I should equip it with. Here's are some of my thoughts:
    CPU: T7500
RAM: I guess 2GB would be enough... but the question is - what brand and 1x2GB or 2x1GB? Does the brand matter much since you rather cannot overclock?
Hard Drive: I need at least 200GB, so I'm thinking about WD Scropio 250GB 5400RPM and Seagate Momentus 200GB 7200RPM - the first is cheaper and larger (but I'm not sure if I would make use of additional 50GB) but the second one is faster (7200RPM, 16MB cache). I opt for Momentus, but again, there is that G-force version, which one to take?

BTW: When I order a barebone, I get an assembled notebook but without CPU RAM HDD WiFi, right? Cuz here
I've found some scary assembly guide, but I guess it's not for a standard customer?

    Thanks for help.

Processor is fine just i would see if you can get a T7300(it should be cheaper and you probably wont notice a difference in clock speeds)

Brand isnt important when it comes to notebook memory since they all pretty much have a lifetime warranty. Look in the Hot ram deals thread for great prices on DDR2-667 ram. I would go for 1x2gb since it would be cheaper if you decide in the future that you need to upgrade to 4GB(2x2GB) when you need to(you will also need a 64bit OS to use the 4GB).

Barebones notebooks dont come with a OS, CPU, RAM, HDD, WiFi, bluetooth, turbo memory etc unless you order it with it and tell them to install it for you.

Assembling a barebone can be difficult to inexperience user but they are usually cheaper and some people like building their own notebooks so they can choose the parts that go in to it.

I would compare the prices of the Barebone (include shipping and tax for each part with an tested assembled model that usally comes with a better(longer+tech support) warranty
