When I try to boot up my computer all I am able to see are things like this:

    and

I assume its my graphics card, but does anyone think differently and/or is there anything I can do about it besides sending it in to be repaired?

Yeah, looks like the GPU is done. How hot did you get it before it fried?

Not that hot...it was working fine this afternoon and then I brought it home and it didn't work.

i wasn't playing any games or doing anything graphically taxing before it stopped working...

    Is this still under warranty?

If not, it may just be a wire that has worked loose near the hinges?

Did it possibly turn on (by accident) while inside your computer case/bag? If you put it to sleep or hibernate, but it didn't actually shut down.

Hope other members more knowledgeable jump in and offer their suggestions.

    Good luck.

If your notebook is out of warranty, you can try this.

Before you try the shake and bake repair hail-mary.....

Disassemble your machine, reseat all the cables, pull the heatsinks, clean all the goo off, reapply quality heat sink goo, and reassemble.

If resetting the machine this way doesn't work, then you can go for the shake and bake.

well it is still under warranty so I don't need to try any home remedies.

but now it is starting up again...

this happened yesterday too...any idea why it would start booting back up again after several hours?

I wouldn't jump on the broken graphics card bandwagon yet until you do some more tests
If your graphics card was the problem, than if you plugged in an external screen, your system would still have issues showing up on that screen.
If you plug in an external screen, and the external shows up fine, than the LCD ribbon cable which runs up the back of your lid has most likely disconnected.
Disassembly of the Lid takes about 20 minutes. Clean the ribbon cable end and port with rubbing alcohol. Than tape the ribbon cable in place and put the lid back together.

I wouldnt try the baking thing, EDIT, I see that your machine is under warranty.
So definitely dont do that, cause that will void your warranty

    Good luck,

    K-TRON

=/ forgot to test hooking it up to my external monitor when it wasn't starting correctly...

though if the graphics card was completely dead it wouldn't be booting up just fine now would it?

Your LCD ribbon cable may be loose. When you move the LCD from the closed position to the open position, the cable moves ever so much. Over time the cable gets partly disconnected. In your case it could be one of two things
    1) the cable is loose, and magically reconnected when you closed and reopened the lid
    2) one part on your graphics card is dying/overheating. Usually surface mount resistors are the first things to fail.

well I opened and closed my computer many times before it fixed itself so I feel like it being the ribbon connector is unlikely...

and its under warranty anyways and I need to get the CD drive replaced already

lol, it'd be funny if all the 9 series were deffective too eh, just like people first speculated? Very funny... except nVidia would not exist, not 2 full generations of deffective product.

mine does exactly that mate... i give a tap on the back of the screen it goes back to normal (sometimes has to be a bit more of a tap!) but i have a dodgy connection to the back of the screen. seriously, looks EXACTLY the same. i will open mine up and fix it when i can be bothered or a thud stops working as the temp cure...

EDIT: also, if you turn it on and leave it long enough do you hear the sounds of windows starting through the speakers? would kind of prove its just the screen connection
