Hp dv7 4295us specs in sig.
    Hey all,
I need help troubleshooting my laptop. It is randomly slow like typing into a browser will take seconds to see what I typed etc. I did a fresh install same thing happens but randomly.
like now it is fine but earlier today I updated the graphics driver and it took 2+ hours. I downloaded and ran passmark couldn't finish memory test and CPU tested lower than a intel duo core

    any thoughts?
    does memory cause this randomly?
    is my mobo frying?

Run memtest as well as diagnostics on your HDD, the HDD's manufacturer should have a diagnostic utility.

Start with making bootable memtest media, test with that and then move to the HDD diagnostics if memtest says everything is fine.

In addition to the above, if you can get a bit ways into turning on your machine (Not immediate BSOD/Crash) then it could also very well be overheating. Check to make sure your fans are spinning, and clean out the vents. Download HWMonitor or Speccy to check the temps.

First thing I checked. Temps are about 140F to 160F fan is running vents and mobo were cleaned 2 months ago. No bsod computer boots fine just randomly slows way down.

If temps are okay, and it's not some sort of power saving option the only thing i could think of is the HDD either being on its last limb or it being some super slow 3200RPM drive. Even a 5400RPM drive under load would never cause a complete slow down like your describing. Two hours too install a ~250Mb file is clearly something wrong. A 12Gb game installs in like 10 minutes on my 5400RPM Drive in my HP elitebook 8470p.
