Hi:
My sister is going to Las Vegas this Saturday on vacation. She staying for 1 week and I want her to buy some stuff for me(a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 160 GB 2.5" and a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB 2.5 ")
I've asked both Newegg and Tigerdirect, but Newegg do not accept foreign issued credit cards and Tigerdirect are not able to ship to her hotel address..
Furthermore there are no Compusa(Tigerdirect) stores in Las Vegas.
So I'm asking if anyone can help me find a physical store in Las Vegas that sells these items at a reasonable price(both Newegg and Tigerdirect sell the OCZ for about $300 while the Momentus XT is about $110).
Thanks

I'm not from LV... so hopefully somebody from there can reply. There's a Fry's near the airport... the building is plenty large and we can see it from the plane depending on the direction. They should have the Seagate Momentus XT there, but maybe not the OCZ. They have plenty of other brands of SSDs. ha ha you guys will be texting each other all day there ("corsair xyz 240 $mmm ok?") or just give her a list of equivalent SSD that you don't mind having. Since it's Fry's just walk up to the help station and say "please match the amazon online price" (or any other internet authorized stores) and they'll know what to do. Bye.

thanks.
Tried to look up Fry's homepage. They have the momentus xt for $139, however don't carry the OCZ SSD harddisk.
They only have 120-128 gb ssd or 256 gb. The last is a bit too expensive and I would prefer the extra 40 gb on the 160 gb OCZ.
Don't really know the ssd drives they carry. Might be older generation.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks -
Frys carries the Corsair Force line. They don't carry the OCZ ones because it would basically just be product overlap since the chipsets are the same. The Corsair Force and the Vertex 2 use the same SF-1222 chipset (the faster 50k IOPS one). The pricing of the Corsair Force should be essentially equivalent to Vertex 2 retail pricing. I wouldn't hesistate to recommend the Corsair Force. I've installed four of them on customer machines.

You might want to ask this on a more general computer forum and not laptopreview. Those kinds of stores cater more to a different audience, the desktop crowd, so people on a desktop related computer forum with lots of members (there are many of these) should be able to help you out a little better than the people here.

Ok, thanks all.
I've found thenerds.net online who can ship to her hotel. Otherwise I might take one of the drives from Frys and try to do a pricematch.
The corsair looks fine, but is only 120 gb. I'm going for 160-256 gb drives.
Maybe I should ask on Anandtech. Had an account there ages ago. -
If you can use thenerds.net just do it! It should be much easier. When we do pricematch at Fry's it can be done in a few minutes - they verify that online store has stock, enter the local zip code and add shipping cost (if any) and print it out. This is only fast when that helper is a supervisor. If that person is not a supervisor it may take half an hour while they try to find one or two supervisors!! Be sure to send your sister to the Crystals mall in the new City Center area - all her favorite handbag stores might be there
edit: in today's Fry's ad which is valid today thru next week thursday... the Intel 40GB and Kingston V series 128GB SSDs are on sale but they're not for you (GB/capacity not large enough). bye -
Hi again:
Well, I asked my sister to go to Fry's to pick up some stuff for me. Unfortunately they were out of stock on the Patriot Inferno 240 gb SSD, however she did buy a Seagate Momentus XT 500 gb. I had told her to ask to pricematch the drive with the prices on Amazon which at that time were $99.99 without shipping.
However she told me, they had said that the drive was $169.99 on Amazon(!!), so could only sell it to her for their normal price of $139.99.
Checked Amazon today and the price is now $104.99:
Amazon.com: Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST95005620AS-Bare Drive: Electronics
Even Newegg has it for that price including shipping.
Have no idea how they could claim that Amazon was selling it for $169.99. It was never that price. Maybe they were just trying to fool my sister who doesn't know much about hardware and prices..Or do they only check items that are sold directly by Amazon and not the different dealers who sell through Amazon?
Should I send her back for a refund of the price difference? Do I have a case for such a refund?
Thanks -
Most stores here do not price match internet sites, but I'm not familar with Frys as there's none by me. I think you should let your sister enjoy her vacation.
-
yeah Fry's will match any internet/online store as long as that store is an authorized dealer of that product. It actually says so in huge letters in their ads in the newspaper. Of course I made them do it 3 or 4 times already ha ha.
Yeah they will only match Amazon-Amazon (not Amazon-other-reseller).
Yeah something very strange it should have been $99 that day. Now both Amazon and Newegg is at 105 plus sales tax. They cannot skip the sales tax because the money is going to the state (not theirs). So there unfortunately is this $35 delta/difference. Depending on where she's staying it'll cost more than $35 or around there in taxicab fare to go there and back plus the time needed. Looks like we can call it $139. :| -
Second thoughts.... since it's a week long vacation... send her back there until they give her the 110% difference. They advertise 110% the difference if we buy something and find a lower price elsewhere/online. The customer service counters are always near the front entrance and they can adjust the price there - all they need to see is the receipt.
From the other day...
$139.99 + 8.1% sales tax = $151.33
Difference = (($139.99 - 104.99) x 110% difference) + 8.1% sales tax = $41.62 back. When they ask if you want a store credit or refund to the card, always say refund to the card.
newegg has another $5 off promo code but that's more messy to argue with them (gotta have a newegg account handy to type it into their computer, and to remember to log out).
Ha ha you're buying her steak and in LV everything is expensive!! -
Yeah, you're right. It's not worth the $35. Don't worry, she is enjoying her vacation. She just wanted to get me the things I needed, so no problem for her. I would do and have done lots of favours for her as well.
Gutted that Fry's didn't have any ssd that I wanted. Were in stock this Saturday, that's why I didn't order it online as it was easier to pick up in Frys.
Sadly users selling their SSD in the market place were also reluctant to sell to me and ship to her. Don't know why all the suspicion just because I'm not from the US(especially one guy was pretty stuck up). It's still domestic shipping with tracking number. I have a verified paypal account.
I would happily ship my stuff worldwide if I was selling anything. -
LOL didn't read your last post. Don't think I'll ask her to go back unless she wants to. It's a gift for me, but money is really not an issue for her. It's just me wanting to get the best deal if possible.
-
ha ha free computer parts huh??!! you lucky guy!! hey that's already the best deal
ok let her have fun at the other places there!! bye
-
I live in Las Vegas and go to the only Fry's store at least 1-2 per month. I love it and just get lost there for endless hours.
Fry's does not cater only to desktops, actually they have a bigger section for laptop vs desktops. Their parts section is catered to both desktop and laptops also. But I have noticed over the years, the laptop selection is getting bigger.
If you need any help with it, just PM me and I will try to help out. -
Thank you for your kindness, but as she's leaving tomorrow, it's too late I guess. Had you replied earlier this week, I might have taken up your offer for help
Thanks anyway.
