Hi everyone. I read on various sites that Intel released the x9000 in mid February. When I look on eBay I can find the processor itself and various notebooks equipped with it. Why can't I find it from vendors like tiger direct or newegg? I even went on Intel's site and they didn't sell it from there. Is there something I'm missing about this cpu? Why is it not available while others like the QX9650 are?

I do not know for certain but could guess they don't think big enough market for $950 CPU? I hope some one posts the reason now I wanna know also.

My guess is because it is a $900 processor. There aren't a lot of them and they tend to go pretty fast.

There are simply less of the ultra high end processors made so when they are avalible they go very fast.

x9000 has different TDP than other procs, so very few systems can accommodate one, therefore they are less available. Most mid-range desktop mobos can take a qx9650 though(i think).

Its rare to find x9000 on retail, no demand for it.

The x9000's on ebay are (ES) Engineering Samples. These werent meant to be released to the public.

well it is not necessary that all of the X9000's are ES....it is hard to even find an ES core 2 duo....the only es i can find on ebay now is a core duo 2.0ghz :D....the ES versions have 'ES' marked on them after the sSPEC no....
X9000 is available more as a stripped out version from a dead laptop....!!
the one i bought was quite clean though....didnt seemed to be used and was at a ridiculous price since i ordered it from china..!!

Ebay stores with x9000's priced at $400-600US are most likely ES even if it doesnt say so. The Gateway users from this forum seem to have a craze for them. They have been comparing CPU stepping and revisions of x9000 ES they bought from ebay

well i bought one from ebay itself for $340 and it was definitely not an ES....actually there havent been many X9000 ES's out for sale since it already has its multiplier's unlocked and anyone who wud get the ES wud only be able to go about 1 or maybe 2 up on the cpu multiplier....since the max multiplier on the X9000 (standard not ES) is 16x....which wud be like overkill.. :D
The ones on ebay are mostly stripped out of notebooks....and no seller, wud let go of the opportunity of selling an ES cpu without mentioning it in the ad since most system builders crave for ES's.... :p
To determine if a processor is an engineering sample, refer to the processor markings. The Q-spec (a four-digit or five-digit code) will begin with the letter 'Q' instead of the standard letter 'S' which is used for production processors. Engineering Sample processors may also have the words ES located after the Q-spec or the words INTEL CONFIDENTIAL marked on them.
The ES cpus wud luk something like these....
