There is a faq in the gaming/graphics card forum that explains the different types of cards quite well. I can look at it and really know what I need to look for in a notebook with light gaming needs.
However, I haven't been able to find anything that sorts out all the different processors out there.
I saw a message that said:
"Celerons --> Pentium Dual Core --> Core Duo --> Core 2 Duo"
And that definitely is helpful. But there are processors that I don't have a clue what they are or where they rank in the heirarchy of things.
For example: Centrino, Centrino Duo, Celeron M (is this different than regular Celeron?). I don't know if these are processor names or what.
Then you have things like: T7200, Celeron M processor 440, T2060, T5300, ULV U1500 and that list goes on.
So how do I know what's what? Is there something, a thread or chart, that makes sense of all this?
Thanks

Anything Intel with an "M" stands for mobile, so it is designed for applications other than desktops. The T7000 series and T5000 series are both notebook CPUs.

generally the higher the number, the better the cpu.
this link might help
http://www.intel.com/products/centrino/compare.htm
the difference between a T7500 and T7300 would be the speed in Mhz
While the difference between a T7200 and T5500 would be architecture. -
Celeron (M too) --> Centrino(assumed Pentium M) --> AMD Turion(single core) --> AMD Turion X2(Dual core) followed closely by Core Duo or Centrino Duo --> Core 2 Duo T5xxx --> Core 2 duo T7xxx (Centrino Duo)
T20xx are Pentium Dual core // an example would be T2060
T2xxx are Core Duo // an example is T2300
T5xxx and T7xxx are Core 2 Duo (64 bit) //example is T7200 or T5500
MK-xx are single core AMD Turions (64 bit) //example s MK-36
TL-xx are Dual core AMD Turions (64bit) // example is TL-60
Celerons 3xx, 4xx, 5xx are all Celeron Ms // example is Celeron 440
ULV is a Ultra Low Volt Core (2) duo // example is U1500
I think that's all of them; other members feel free to copy and add.
Note* Turion 64 X2 and Core Duo and Core 2 duo are fairly close in terms of performance. -
I think Yuio's reply should be stickied
Thanks!
