    Ok guys,
I've just order a new laptop from cyberpower (X7-7500).

I upgraded the cpu to a T7700, RAM to 4gb, and vista 64bit. My only concern is the gpu. Everywhere I look I seem to see different versions of the 8600M GT. What I expect is to get 512 VRAM dedicated, but I've seen that seemingly have the same card but only have 256 VRAM.

I've seen a toshiba laptop with the same card, but it has the potential to add turbo cache adding an extra 256 RAM to the already 512 dedicated. While I be able to do this?

As long as I am getting a full 512, I'll be happy.

Laptop manufacturers love to hide the real amount of dedicated video RAM. Sony, for example, boasted that their SZ6 series has 1GB Video RAM. Yeach, right! Until you read the fine print! And even that doesn't really tell how much dedicated video RAM the card has. The only sure way to tell is by looking at the Display Properties in Vista. Vista will tell you how much dedicated Video RAM your card has and how much system RAM is shared.

Judging from the price, it looks like your system only has between 64 to 128MB dedicated video RAM.

Well I know the system will not have 64 to 128 dedicated... I don't think an 8600m GT with that low of dedicated VRAM exists. I've certainly never heard or seen of it anywhere.

Your system is most likely to have 512mb of dedicated video ddr2 ram.
    8600m GT gpus only have 512mb ddr2 or 256mb (gddr3 or ddr2).

I'm guessing it's 256 MB dedicated. The way it describes the card makes it seem that 512 MB is with the Turbo cache on. 256 dedicated + 256 turbo cache.

Why do you need 512MB? The card can't use more than 256 MB anyway...

Don't double post by the way. You already posted this in the gaming section.
