Hey guys... I ordered a Dell U2410, a 24" monitor with 1920 x 1200 resolution. I thought I'd have no problem connecting to it via HDMI from my Sony Vaio FW190 laptop, BUT...
According to Sony AND to the specs on the FW's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400, the HDMI will only output up to 1920 x 1080 (which is not quite 1920 x 1200).
Sony says I need to use the VGA connection, but I've been told that the monitor won't look as good when VGA is used.
So what are my options here? Those of you that connect your laptop to a 24" 1920x1200 Monitor, how do you do it?
Thanks!

HDMI will be fine, don't worry about it.
And the page you linked to says 1900x1200, not 1900X1080. -
# HDMI output support

Yes HDMI will work fine.
You can use HDMI-HDMI if your monitor has HDMI. Or get HDMI-DVI. -
Why do you suppose that Sony and ATI both say that HDMI output only supports resolutions up to 1920x1080? I even contacted Sony Support and they insisted it. -
Ignorance probably.
Acer says the same about 1810tz but it worked fine on my 1920*1200 LCD. -
Anyway... thanks very much! -
Yes, but you have to tell the Windows 7 display resolution manager (right-click the desktop for the menu) to just use Monitor 2. I cannot get my FW590 to do both the LCD and my 1920x1200 monitor simultaneously at the right resolutions - it seems to lock to 1600x900 for both displays when both are on, regardless of the settings in the ATI catalyst manager. I've upgraded the driver and Catalyst control panel via the modding utility, and no change.
You'll also discover that if you close the lid, Monitor 2 will be fine, but reopen it even partway (for typing or volume control) and dumb ol' Windows 7 will autoswitch you to Extended Desktop, reactivating the LCD panel and messing things all up Haven't figured out how to fix that yet. -
Hi
Can you confirm if this worked?? I was just about to buy this monitor and saw the spec on the laptop... then wasn't so sure!
Thanks

HDMI will support WUXGA just fine (on my Acer 6920G). Websites and company tech support are typically not accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt. HDMI is a specification that is held to a certain standard, just check out Wiki or directly from HDMI.org to check out its specs.

I did this with my M15X i7 and Samsung 2494HM (24inch) monitor before (sold it already).
I found the picture was not stable not sure why actually it could have been the displayport to HDMI converter I used to connect the monitor to my laptops or my GPU GTX260M that was unable to make the picture sharp enough.
My Laptop has a Full HD screen and looks surb but on the full HD monitor it was a blurry unstable mess ... -
Did you set the resolution and refresh rate of the external monitor since mine was clear...
-
Well It has been more then 6 months ago sinds I tried it but my guess is that I did change the res as I always do when connecting to a secondary screen.
Its good to know that you did not have those problems as it gives me hope of trying it again in the near future.
I used a third party HDMI to displayport converter im guessing that was the issue and not my GPU.
Connect Laptop to 24" 1920x1200 Monitor?
