My HP laptop has a burnt out backlight or something so I barely see anything on the monitor. I can't send it in right now because I need stuff off of it, but when I hooked it up to two HP PC monitors the monitors would say "going to sleep" or something like that. What's the problem here and how can I go about using me laptop?

If you want the stuff off there why not pull the drive, get a case for it and hook it to another computer?

Try pressing FN+4 to switch screens from the laptop to external monitors
