Why is just WXGA bad, compared to WSXGA and WUXGA? I really have no idea about any of them, all I know is WXGA is supposed to be worse. But why? One of the laptops I am looking to buy, the Sony VAIO FE690 has a WXGA screen, and that is what is holding me back from purchasing. What is bad about it? Do the pictures and text and stuff look worse? Do they look fuzzy? Please help!

it is not bad. really...it is just a preference. if you get higher resolution, you get more space on your screen and images becomes crisper. but it does also mean that your text and icons shrink, making it difficult to read. i personally prefer lower resolutions b/c my eyes strain easily, so wxga (i'm actually using xga resolution right now...) would be great for me. but for others, especially those that do a lot of photo editing and 3d like the greater space and sharper image quality.

WXGA = 1280×800
WSXGA = 1680×1050
WUXGA = 1920×1200
It's just a matter of max resulation and what you prefer. The higher the resolution the sharper the image because the pixels are smaller, but the smaller the text/icons. -
I see the biggest 'con' is the variability of what resolution defines WXGA (1200x800, 1280x768, etc). Higher resolution translates to larger real estate on the desktop, the con is the font size. DVD movies have a low intrinsic resolution even when compared to WXGA so it is more that enough to watch a movie.

You can always increase the font size with windows. If I recall intel gpus has this utility that can make icons larger...
