Considering an origin that offers Intel i7 960 and another with i7 3320. Don't know the difference. Appreciate any help.

i7 3320? Xeon, maybe? Or is this an IVB I've yet to see...

Or maybe an i5 3320?

i7 960 and i7 3320 data sheets are here and here.

There is really no particular reason to go for a Xeon in a personal computer (the only real benefit is that you could get a dual socket motherboard and double up on CPUs). The 960 is faster, has hyper threading, and a few other niceties.

Oh yeah, that's one of those 6 core processors Maingear is now selling. I say if it isn't too much more then go with the 3820. I don't know about the clock speeds but you can always OC it. If you need a motherboard too then I would go with an Asus Rampage 4 or Maximus series. Those are 2011 socket right?

Edit: so it is only 4 cores after all, in that case, get the one that's more cost effective.

both are 4 core, 970 is lowest hex core.

go with 3820 if price isn't much higher, it's a no brainer.
