I've ordered the Dell XPS M1330 with 2GB RAM. The Dell cost to upgrade to 4GB RAM is something like $600 and this is only 667 MHz RAM. I noticed on this site that I can get 4GB 800MHz RAM for $480: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=36F2361BA5CA7304
Some may ask why I need 4GB. I'm a software developer who uses VPC's for development work. The VPC (with Windows Server2003) likes 2 GB RAM and I would also like to run Vista as my other OS at the same time.
Anyway, does anyone know how easy it would be to install the RAM into the M1330? I read the step-by-step guide for another Dell and was wondering how different this would be for the 1330? I appreciate the 1330 is very new and that not many people will have had the chance to take the thing apart yet.

There's no point getting 800mhz. Santa Rosa only supports 667mhz ram. You can get 2x2gb from fry's for about $170.

Yeah if you use DDR2-800 on a Santa Rosa machine it will down clock it to 667mhzso it would jsut be better to get DDR2-667 which are cheaper. Look at the Hot Ram Deal thread for great prices on ram. Also make sure you get a 64bit OS so that you can use/see the 4gb.

I didn't realize that. I thought because the processor had 800Mhz FSB it could support 800Mhz RAM. Thanks.
I'll look into getting 2x2GB 667Mhz RAM. I honestly can't believe the price Dell want for the upgrade. -
Lol, you can grab a new (low-end) laptop for $600

The only notebooks that can support the 800Mhz RAM are the D901C's and the C90's atm.
Considering upgrading to 4GB 800MHz RAM
