After the CPU in my clevo laptop died during a (second) delidding attempt, I decided it was finally time to say goodbye to it and transition into the desktop gaming space.
The laptop was purchased during the college days, where there was a use case for it given the narrow desk spaces in the dorm room, and its semi-portablilty was an added bonus.
Its GTX 1080 was coming up short for fluid 1440p gaming -Cyberpunk runs like garbage on pascal,AC Valhalla couldn't hold 30fps in fjornberg unless I overclocked the card or dropped to 1080p with sharpening.
I could see where this was going, the 1080 fell below the baseline specs of the new consoles and had no ray tracing capabilities whatsoever.
The system was in dire need of an upgrade to stay relevent, only problem was the MXM upgrade path is a complete joke at this point; One I didn't catch up on back in 2016 when I purchased the system.
I managed to get my hands on an RTX 3070 at a somewhat reasonable price("only" 20% above the MSRP here, that's a bloody steal) and built an ATX system around it, salvaging a core i9-9900kf I had lying around(which was also used briefly in the laptop with a modded BIOS) and all the m.2 storage I had shoved into it.

So now I have a decent gaming desktop and a dead gaming laptop with a fully working GTX 1080, 16gb of RAM, a motherboard with an LGA-1151 socket and an upgradeable MXM 3.0b slot and a 1440p 120hz g-sync panel.
Obviously I'm not about to sell my first ever gaming system, too attached to this one![]()
Basically I want to convert this:

Into something like this:
With one Extra Step- Salvage the Built in monitor, keyboard and trackpad and Convert them into wireless Peripherals if possible.
Two things will happen:
The system will find a new Home, or should I say Home Theater.
The universe will be restored to balance once again.
Anyone with experience of this ?

My lazy opinion: just close the lid and make a nice looking stand for it
Wireless display conversion will be a major pain in the ass, and also expensive. You'll need a controller for it, and a computer to drive it (Android stick or phone will work), even if you hide it all in a box it will be bulky and still need a power supply.dmanti and tilleroftheearth like this. -
Makes sense from a building standpoint. Is it worth the time to do it though?
I would probably more apt to sticking the guts into a traditional case to keep it simple. (mATX or larger)
As to the wireless display.... no idea but, using it as a HTPC over HDMI should work well. WIFI though you could stream from it using a dongle/stick that connects back to the HTPC over your network. I'm sure you could probably find a wireless transmitter
