run your tapes in a cassette player and have its audio output connected to the audio input of your laptop. maybe you'll need some software to have it recorded though.
it would be better and easier if you have an mp3 player with a line-in recording capability. my samsung has. it will be recorded into mp3 easier. -
I suggest using Audacity, the free program for sound editing. You can clean up your recorded audio (cassettes, LPs, tape reels) -
Yes Audacity is what I recommend as well I use it to convert my vinyl to MP3
. Heres a link:

I do have a MP3 player (1GB) How much space does an average lets say 40min cassete use?
Thanks for the link, Do i need any of the plug ins?
Line in on the laptop would be the Mic jack right?
I didnt know it would be that easy. Sure made my day to find out its simple to do, I was expecting to have to purchase some fancy equipment and cables or something. LOL

I would use a laptop so it will be easier to splice up the songs, as well as to edit or convert them.
Yes that would be the mic input jack.
I recommend wiping off the cable/s first and turning off any wireless devices such as cell phones as they sometimes tend to interfere when transferring.
The space is usually about 1MB per minute if putting into MP3 format. -

If i have this correct i believe the only cable you'll (I'll) need is one with a headphone jack on both ends of the cable,You can get those at Best Buy, Radio Shack, places like that.
But i am just assuming this is the cable their talking about. -
Yep, that is it, however some cassette/radio/cd/vinyl players only have the speaker inputs (red) and (white) if thats the case you would need a converter cable to convert the (red) and (white) Left and Right channels into a stereo headphone output.

Cool, thanks guys.
