Whats the coolest-running hard drive out there among both ssds and hdds? I'm trying to find something that won't get warm in the sager np8662.
-
The coolest running hdd would be the Toshiba 500GB drive. I think SSD's have a lower average power consumption than hard drives.
-
Samsungs 2nd Generation MLC SSD runs very cool and doesn't consume that much power.
-
The Hitachi 5K500.B is the lowest power consumption harddrive in its class. Actually one of the most power efficient storage solutions overall

I actually bought the Toshiba a month ago, but I haven't gotten around to using it other than to see if it works. -
the coolest HDD is the one that goes to many lengths to impress other HDD.
-
John Ratsey tested the 5K500.B to the WD5000BEVT, and the Hitachi yielded more battery life, lower temps and higher data throughput

NBR > Tom's... lol

-
from the spec sheet...its hitachi the lowest...
-
And actually, from the spec sheet the Toshiba is the lowest. They list identical figures for read/write power usage, but the Toshiba has way lower figures for idle power consumption, which correlates to the results of the Tom's Hardware test.

what about ssds?
-
Good SSDs (Intel, Samsung, Indilinx, Mtron, Memoright, ie. not Jmicrons) tend to be cool to the touch and definitely cooler than HDDs by 10 deg C easily.
-
OK. You bought the Toshiba and you would like to think it's the most bestest HDD ever! We got it.
The coolest HDD has to be an SSD, the Samsungs and Intels lead the pack. In regards to mechanical HDDs, probably the Hitachi, but I really doubt there would be more than a few C difference across the line. -
I bought the Toshiba after doing all my homework. Nobody here has come up with any evidence that the Hitachi uses less power than the Toshiba.
-
Hitachi or Toshiba is just a matter of preference.
Actually the Hitachi is made halogen-free so it is environmental friendly, I dont know about the Toshiba though.
I bought the single platter Hitachi 5k500.B (250GB) and been pretty pleased with it, it barely make a sound and almost no vibration produced, also I suppose it should have lower power requirements than the 500, 400 and 320GB because it has less moving parts.
I don't have experience with Toshiba HDD's but I recommend the Hitachi brand, they have never failed on me. -
You did all your homework? Well done! I would give you a star but sadly I am fresh out.
Well, I do remember a spec sheet being floated around but I recall you dismissing it because companies lie... lolz. -
I guess you do get stars in your kindergarten class. In case you were brain dead at the time, I linked to manufacturer specs of both drives that showed that the read/write power consumption was equal and that the Toshiba had significantly lower idle power consumption in case you felt like sticking with the manufacturer specs.
-
hey, guys, stop insulting each other!
-
lolz.
I don't get stars in my kindergarten class... I hand them out.
To be honest, I barely skimmed through the posts. I saw the statement about the Hitachi having the lowest power consumption and you stating that companies lies, and went on to the next post. To be even more honest, I honestly don't give two-cents about this topic, it's just that you are acting really obnoxious, as if you gave birth to this Toshiba HDD, that I just had to chime in.
Anyway. I already told you that Toshiba is the best. I gave you a star for doing all your homework. What's left?
We will see if one of the mods can issue a formal decree or if Moses can hit us up with the 11th commandment stating that Toshiba pawns all!!
It's a bloody hard drive.. get over it. -
So why are you picking fights?
-
Picking fights? My man, look at my very first post. All I said was that you bought the Toshiba (which you did) and that you would like to think it's the best HDD (which you clearly do), that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't see how that's picking a fight. Furthermore, I went on to say that in MY opinion, the Hitachi is probably the best but even so, there wouldn't be much of a difference among the drives anyway.
Now, you replied.... and things got a little hysterical from there.
Anywho.
I am done with this. Enjoy your HDD. -
Don't play dumb. You came into this thread like the biggest ****** in the universe.
-
the coolest hdd to run in a clevo m860tu/sager np8662 is the seagate 7200.4 series full stop. it is fact!
edit: a zalman nc-2000 will also help -
Alright my man. As this clearly shows, you're the one who is pushing the envelope. I tried to be civil... and you reply with this.
I'm going to leave this before I get myself into trouble with the mods. -
ok ppl stop the flamming... i would also say toshiba as i have had it in my laptop for almost a year and hasn't failed yet. Hitachi is also probably good as all japanese companies stuff is but since everything's made in China now there probably no diff in quality as made in china stuff= crap.
Coolest HDD
