As someone who put a Seagate Momentus into his compaq a few years ago (like 3 i guess) only to find it to be a raging source of heat....anyone here have some real world experience with the current lineup of 7200rpm drives out there?
I need to upgrade and really don't want to compromise heat or noise
- budget doesnt matter, just 320gb or greater
- what prompted me to want to upgrade is that navigating my systems files is like being on a mediocre internet connection. 2 full seconds to open My Documents or any other folder, saving a word file takes [just tested] 18 seconds! You get the idea, i want punctuality
Suggestions? The new momentus is actually good? Scorpio black the better one to go with?
thanks in advance

Hey Lvivkse,
I understand your need for speed for your lappy's lagging response time. I too had the same issue. I ordered the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 320GB from Newegg.com to help solve that problem. That said, I would suggest reading the reviews on the NewEgg.com site and see what the people are using it for, and what they're thoughts are. You'll be able to read a wide variety of reviews for Seagate HD's and hopefully it will give you a better understanding/opinion/insight.
Seagate Momentus 7200.4 320GB
Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB
Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB -
How's the heat factor for you since the switch?

Hi Lvivske - the WD scorpio black are very quiet and cool, I have a 160 gb one and usualy is ~ 37 deg.

From my experience, the coolest and quietest laptop hard drives are definitely Seagate's Momentus 7200.3 and 7200.4 range. All the WDs I've had (even 5400rpm ones) vibrate stronger than the Seagate drives.

well I ordered the 7200.4 so lets hope they've fixed things
I'll give a review when it comes in
Coolest and Quietest 7200 hdd?
