    I practically never shut down my laptop,the Acer Aspire 5672WLMi. I'd always be doing something or the other with it,and I carry it with me whereever I go.I only shut it down for a couple of hours a day.What do you guys suggest I should do in order to prevent it from overheating? And is there anyway I can give it more ventilation? I'd really like to give my CPU cooling fan more open room,but hey I place this on my lap/table and it's totally covered.Any ideas/suggestions? An estimated of how much green paper will be burnt would also be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Amol

    Well, i've been trying to cool down it too. But after investigating a lot, i've reached to the conclusion that the only "safe" thing to do is to change the processor.

    I don't know wich processor your laptop came with, but i can tell you of mine.
    I have a SEMPRON 2800+ (1.6 ghz). It overheats a lot. As it's quite imposible to add extra ventilation to it (unless you want to make a hole next to vga output). In my case, i could replace the processor for another with a lower TDP (mine has 62W and newest like TURION have 25W). It is supossed to work (because my mother is exactly the same as the one that comes with TURION. But its all about experimenting (gladly, it is quite expensive to burn a laptop - or one of its components).

    If i were you, i would try to sell it, and buy a new one with CENTINO DUO or TURION processor (be aware that in a near future will araise TURION DUAL).

    Greetings.

    The 5672 comes with an Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz as a matter of fact.

    My notebook doesn't exactly run cool either - I took three steps (well, two out of three so far) to cool it down. Number one - I undervolted my processor. I don't know how much success people have had doing that with Duos, but mine I lost 2-3*C (down from 52*C stock or so @ idle) - that costs nothing.
    Number two - bought a cheap cooler. Check out the Spire Pacific Breeze cooler here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834996501

    It's $15 but does a heck of a job cooling. My temps dropped a full ten degrees on the CPU, and 8 on the hard drive. It is a little loud, but once you see how well it works, you won't care. Well worth investing in.

    You can check out the Targus Chill Mat as an alternative, it's more portable and quieter but does not do as good of a job by far as the Spire.

    My third step I have not yet completed - I ordered some Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, hope to apply that to my CPU this week. Should take off another 3-7*. The tube I bought was $7.

    So for me it was
    undervolt = $0 = -2 to 3*C
    cooling pad = $15 = -10*CPU/8*HDD
    AS5 = $7 = projected -3 to 7*CPU

    =$25 (with ship) for (projected) -20-22*C CPU + -8-9*HDD
