The Subject should be Intel Core DUO 1.5 vs. AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 1.9Mhz

I went in to purchase the AMD processor above but walked out of the store based on tests and sales person suggestion to run with the Intel Core Duo.. Is the 1.5 Duo faster then the 1.9 Turion??

    Thanks!

Well since search has been wacky lately I'll tell you.
In this case the AMD wins.

The Intel CPU wins, but it comes down to price overall.

By a significant margin?? I am curious because I have about 3 hours of driving in total if I want to swap the unit out.. It's strange because
I thought I ran a WEI (Windows Experience Index) on each and I thought all the subscores in each area were higher but I could be wrong.. That was after looking at like 50 laptops and my brain was fried..

Power management tends to be better in Core 2 Duo laptops than their AMD counterparts. Given the choice, I would go for the Core 2 Duo specification due to this reason. You should get greater battery life on the C2D.

Honestly, the 1.5GHz C2D is a fine cpu and as for as general performance is concerned there shouldnt be any issues with either AMD or Intel. It would be faster in some cases and slower in others, nothing massive. I wouldnt exchange it if you are happy with the performance. BTW WEI is the crappiest benchmark you can imagine. It is not indicative of real life performance of a system. You can run WEI at different times on the same hardware and get different scores. Device drivers also play a big role in determining the final score. Yeah, it is nice tool to have a quick glance but it no more of a marketing tool just like many other benchmarks.

Also I presume you bought it in a retail store, if so then you might be charged a restocking fee if you have opened the box. If so, then definately it wont be worth the effort to get it exchanged.

I have NOT opened the box so I am like crackhead with a sack of rocks in front me right now.. I really want to open it but at $150 "restocking fee" I am holding off until I know this is my boy. The other reason I went with this model is because it has the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 which I understand is faster then the NVIDIA GeForce 7150M which came in most of the AMD models..

Thomas, I would say this is going to be a general use machine... Lot's of Outlook, Excel, internet surfing.. Also some web developing and gaming.. I don't do a lot of gaming but I am moving to a very slow paced region of the US so I may pick this up some...
    Thanks,
    Jeffrey
