Hey guys, Im going to order a HP DV6500z tonight probably, its got all the features I want except the core 2, the Z series comes with Turions only, but the price is right.

My Main issue is I keep hearing about these Core 2s and how awesome they are, im a little apprehensive about getting a Turion because I know the core 2s are more powerful, are my fears justified? Or should I take the great deal on the 2.1ghz Turion and run!?

How does the 2.1ghz Turion compare to the 1.8ghz Core 2?

Anyone have any anecdotal evidence or benchmarks?

Most of the time the benchmarks are irrelevant. Most people will never push their CPU in a way they'll notice a difference. Everyday tasks like Office, Internet, listening to music or watching DVDs are not very CPU intensive. You are coding a video on the TL-62 and it takes five minutes, if the T7100 is 20% faster, it would take four minutes on the Intel. That is in my opinion not a big difference. The CPU is only one part of the equaltion, hard drive and memory play large role as well.

Intels have better battery life which is a more compelling reason to get one if you need a lot of battery life.

What will you be doing with your laptop? I have a TL-60 (2.0GHz Turion x2), and it is perfect for everyday usage.

Im going to be doing some office work, some internet surfing, and some gaming, probably listening to music and managing photos on there too.

Ill be throwing in an 8400GS and 2Gigs of ram in there too, if that helps the diagnosis?

note you can not upgrade the video card, as it is part of the mobo. and 2.1? i have 2.0 turion and it is great, I have vista ultimate running one it, and WOW is all I can say, they say intels are faster, they could be but I have don't think any one needs faster than the turion. but thats my opinion.

I recommend taking it and running. especially if it a good deal.
