    Hi there,

I've managed to get my hands on a T7400 ES core 2 duo.

I'd like to upgrade a Sony Vaio FE111S which I believe has a 945PM motherboard which is apparently compatible. Unfortunately when I install the CPU the PC refuses to boot. I assume I need a bios update.

Does anyone know if there is a bios update for Sony Vaios yet. The vaio uses a Phoenix Notebios. Does anyone know if they have core 2 compatible version?

    Cheers,

    CW

Yep I tried to install it twice with the same result.

I assume by lock the cpu you mean to turn the lock on the motherboard after inserting the cpu?

Does your old (I'm assuming Core Duo) work when you put that back in your SZ? If it does, and others have had success with getting a Merom to work in this notebook, then the processor you received may be bad. There really isn't a way to test it unless you have a notebook or motherboard that you’re 100% sure works with the Merom.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the help.

It's strange it doesn't work. The cpu is definitely working and has been used in serveral other laptops prior to me getting holding of it.

My laptop is an Sony Vaio FE111S model not the SZ.

I'm guessing it will need a bios update. Trouble is Sony are about the biggest bunch of ***** when it comes to support. I doubt they'll do anything to assist owners upgrading. They'd much rather push people into buying new laptops.

Think this is the last Sony I'll ever buy as there are many more helpful manufacturers with better specs for the price.
