I was browsing some sites, reading about the newly launched Core 2 Duo processor for notebook and noticed on some sites that its not nearly as good as it should be and on one site it even tested to have shorter battery life than the Core Duo. How is this processor? I was eagerly waiting for it before buying my notebook but now I have some doubts. Can anyone tell me how it performs?

A review of a Dell Inspiron E1505 with a Core 2 Duo was just posted on this site.

Great question....how much does a Core 2 Duo outperform the Core Duo (if at all)?
-
i got a question too
how good is the memorn in implemeting the 64 bit architecture?
performance of memron 32 bit vs 64 bit?
thanks -
There are stickies on this but here: a 20% difference from Yonah(Core Duo) which is not as big as the P-M/ Core Duo jumps. The Yonah CPUs are socket compatitble with Merom, so upgrades are possible. Battery life and endurance are nearly the same, so its all up to pricing and when you buy.

so what kind of computer usage do we need to be doing to see a noticeable difference between a core duo and core 2 duo?

Core Duo and Core 2 Duo differences? Maybe if you're constantly processing things. There's also more cache in a Core 2 Duo (the T7200 and higher, not the T5400, etc.) than in the Core Duo, which makes a larger difference in performance than any of the other changes. Most people won't see much difference between then two except in benchmarks and if they want to run 64bit software, though.
