    Hi!

I'm bying the new XPS M1330 and I wondered if there is a noticeable difference between T5250 (1,5 ghz, 667 mhz) and T7100 (1,8 ghz, 800 mhz)? I'm gonna use it for general use, including applications like Photoshop. Thanks!

    Kjetil.

    for general use: no difference

    for gaming: no difference again!!!
    because of your GeForce 8400M

    for future upgrades: small difference
can't install anything that runs faster than 667 mhz if you go with T5250 because the front side bus of a CPU must be faster than the equipment for the CPU itself to work with it. However, 667 mhz hardware will survive long enough on the market until your next laptop.

Thanks for your quick reply toned. So I won't notice any difference, not even in applications like Photoshop? (A couple of seconds difference in some operations I can manage :p)...By the way, I can install memory that can run faster than 667 mhz, it will just throttle down to 667?

    Thanks!

I agree with "toned42" and I would be comfortable with either but I would pay a little more for the 1.8Ghz/800Mhz FSB if it was in my budget. Not so much for future upgrades. Upgrading anything other than RAM or HDD on a notebook is usually not worth it. But for the slight increase in the entire system.

Hmm I was under the impression that although the T5250 is 667Mhz, it is of the SR update (although right low down). Therefore it is Socket P (like T7XX00s where X odd) as opposed to Socket M (which are T7X00, X even). Therefore the T5250 version should be processor upgradeable for both current and hopefully the next SR refresh providing cooling is adequate. At least I hope I'm right ...

In my case, the price difference is about 207 dollars (1212 NOK)...worth it?

How's this processor at overclocking? :)

If I had $207 pocket change sure but like a lot of us that adds up so I would be happy with 1.5Ghz. OC I don't know about that one (I'm AMD) but be carefull when thinking about it. I have overclocked mine, but if I am going to surf the web or do almost any other app that my CPU can already handle why stress my system? I overclock to see what I can do for fun, benchmarks. Then I go back to factory, why overclock and email? Or surf? Know what I mean?

I read your links and I disagree with saying "opposite" I am not sure what you are reffering to? Of your two choices neither has 4MBL2 cache, even though people might reffer to them as budget CPU's does not mean those people have a clue or are correct on your thread. If you asked me what is the fastest CPU and money does not matter I would of said different things. Don't confuse yourself the replys to your thread are correct.
