I'm looking at the Dell Vostro 1500 and im wondering whether the base processor, the Core 2 Duo T5270 1.4ghz is fast enough or whether i should upgrade up to the T7100 1.8ghz for an extra $130. Speed is my number one priority and the computer will be used for a lot of multitasking, not really gaming though. Considering i'm going to be running XP and it comes with 2 GB Ram and 128 MB Geforce 6400M, is the upgraded processor going to make a big enough difference to warrant a $130 upgrade? Theres also T5470 1.6ghz for $75 T7250 or 2ghz for $160..anything faster and its out of my price range.

You will definately feel the difference. I highly recommend getting an integrated card and spend that money on upgrading to a 4mb cache 2.0GHz, the T7300.

Get the 2.0GHz (or at least 1.8), you will feel the difference.

Nowadays the CPU is pretty much the most important component on a laptop, as it is difficult to upgrade. Other components like HD and RAM can be easily and cheaply upgraded should you need a boost in the future.

weird..i was checking out the Vostro 1500 earlier in the week and its base config was with an integrated card. then yesterday they changed it and now base config is with a dedicated card and no option for an integrated card.

also, i cant get the T7300 as an option, my slowest option at 4mb cache would be T5000 2.2ghz at price tag of an extra $300! thats double what i was looking originally looking at.

any ideas? am i just going to the wrong place to configure (dell.com)? i do find that sometimes when i go to dell.com through a link it gives a different base configuration.
