Vista X64 works better in general, but the quantity of RAM you have will also make a difference.

You can use the same product key, you will just need to acquire an x64 install disc.

If you know anyone with ultimate you can use their 64 bit disc to install any verison of windows just enter your premium ( asuming ) cd key and itll install premium 64 bit. I used my dads 64 bit disc and im running 64 bit on my dv6000 it runs good with only 1.5gb of ram.

No problem. Don't forget to make sure you have all your drivers downloaded before reformatting!
