    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new laptop and I think I found which one I want to buy but the processor choice has me stumped. I've narrowed it down to either the IntelĀ® Core 2 Duo Mobile T5600 Dual-Core Processor (2x 1.83GHz/2MB Cache/667FSB) or the IntelĀ® Core Duo Processor T2500 (2.0GHz/2M Cache/667FSB) . I'm just wondering how the two compare.

I know that the Core 2 Duo has a slight advantace over the Core Duo but in my case, the Core Duo is running at a faster clock speed whil having the same memory cache. Other than that it seems almost as if the Core 2 Duo just has 64-bit support. I really need some help since I can't really decide which one to go with.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Core 2 Duo 7x00 series is a good choice as they have a 4MB cache and 64 bit architecture. If you are budget concious then you can go with Core Duo as it will take sometime for the 64 bit platform to mature.

Yeah I kinda figured that since the T5600 is running at a lower clock speed but at the same time is 64-bit and newer, they would probably even out. With the exception that the T5600 will be much better at 64-bit applications (its even slightly cheaper). Thanks for the help!

The T2500 is the faster chip.
Actually, the T5600 is the only one of those chips that can even run 64-bit operating systems/apps to begin with; the Core Duo does not have Intel EMT64T. Support was added for that on the Core 2 Duo.

The T5600 should be cheaper than the T2500, so that's good. Intel does not charge any more for the Core 2 Duo than it did for the Core Duo. Therefore the Core Duo T2400 (1.83GHz) should be the same price as the Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz).

Go with the Core 2 Duo. Saves you money and you will not notice a difference between the two.

As far as I remember, both have the same performance but T2500 is more energy efficient.
