Hi
I'm trying to figure out whether I would really notice the difference of the above 2 configurations in terms of general Windows performance - won't be gaming. (Not especially concerned about improved battery life as the machine won't be away from the mains too much.)
The machine with the T7500 has a NVIDIA SLI dual GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB, and the other only has a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256 MB.
I would upgrade the T7500 from 2 GB to 3, and the T9300 has 4 GB anyway.
Price of both machines is roughly the same, but the T7500 has a WSXGA rather than a WXGA screen like the other.
Could really use informed advice about whether the T9300 is worth sacrificing the better screen for.
Thanks a lot

If your doing Photoshop or video encoding, I would vote the 9300 since you won't be gaming. However you can always upgrade CPU at a later stage, so, unless you get a good price for the used T7500, I would not upgrade to the T9300 now at $340 US.

But since you already mentioned you don't game and don't care about battery life, I say get the one with Penryn, because the former sounds more like a gaming machine to me [SLI 8600M GT]. UNLESS OF COURSE YOU NEED THE EXTRA SCREEN SPACE YOU WILL ONLY GET WHEN YOU CHOOSE WSXGA. -
Thanks for this. Yep, the T7500 is a Toshiba x200 219 and the T9300 is an HP DV9780.
The HP seems like the faster machine, but the Toshiba has a sharper screen which is better to my eye than the glossy HP.
And I'm trying to find out whether I would really notice the performance difference on the two...
Sounds like I should go for the HP? -
Well, you do have to live with the screen..and you can always upgrade if you feel that the T7500 is not enough, IMHO you will like it.

I would get a better screen over a faster processor any day.

didn't know I could upgrade a laptop processor from 7500 to 9300.
and if not much difference in performance i think hydra's/nizzy's advice probably right and should go with the Tosh.
any other thoughts?
