Anyone know when the Core 2 Duo (specifically the T7200) will be available by itself? I'm still waiting on them so I can get my Asus Z96J up and running.

Stocks of C2D processors are very short at the moment, especially the higher end models. Those that are available are being snapped up by notebook manufacturers, so actually finding one at the moment will probably be tricky.

They are available, but as TedJ mentioned there is a shortage of some models. Getting one may be tough for a little while.

This is just **** frustrating ... I have a perfectly good Z96 sitting in the closet but can't use it for lack of CPU. As of today, the prices for the T7200 and T7400 more than DOUBLED on ebay... $657 for a T7200 ???? WTF?!

I knew I should have gone with AMD !!!

Supply and demand, capitalism at it's finest, lol. :p If the market will bear it, people will pay it. It's crazy.

I don't know how long it will be before the high-end Core 2 Duos will be available, but it will probably only get more difficult from now until Christmas to get your hands on one because as stated, the manufacturers are snatching up all they can - they need to have an ample supply for Q4, which is supposed to be an extremely busy time for them.

If you really just wanted to get it up and running, consider picking up a Celeron M 400 series CPU. They are based on the Yonah core and are actually pretty fast. I do not know where you can purchase them but they should not be very expensive.
