Core 2 Quad/Extreme Mobile Processors???

Another discussion has stirred up some questions I have been thinking about.

The subject is the the possibility of Core 2 Quad/Extreme processors in mainstream gaming notebooks by HP, Dell, Gateway, etc. I mean Mobile Core 2 Quad, not Sager putting in Desktp processors in notebooks and ramping up the cooling system

In my own world of imagination, and conflicting realism, I hope to see Quad Core Mobile processors with 32nm technology in 2009. Is it realistic or just a dream?

If it does become a reality, will those with Intel® PM965 Chipsets be able upgrade to it or will they create a new socket type and new chip sets for it.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or better yet, inside for knowledge?

 

maybe but i dont think quad core will be mainstream in laptops at least until 2010 and to my knowledge the point of extreme processors being extreme is that they are not m ainstream and cost a mother load.

 

The QX9300 is already on intel's roadmap, though it's a 45nm part:

Seeing as it's supposed to come out this year; mainstream quads can't be that far down the line. I'd venture to say that sometime in 2009 isn't a bad guess, though I'm pretty sure the 965M chipset will be outdated by then. If you're real lucky, the QX9300 will use Socket P, but that info isn't confirmed.

 

they will probably change the socket type with more pins for the quad core because know they arent so battery efficient but knowing technology maybe early 2009

 

My field of expertise will never be computer technology. But nonetheless, doing the research to make the best purchase I can, has taught me a lot about researching the internet and sharpened my internet research skills. Please tell me if I am wrong, but this is what I could determine.

The yet to be released Core 2 Extreme X9100, 3.06MHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 533/1066MHz FBS will fit a P Socket and will fit the Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset, while the chipset only supports 800/533 MHz FBS.
Can Intel® Turbo Memory, or the next generation internal flash memory help fill the gap in FSB?

Is the X9000 the last Penryn processor for the Santa Rosa platform?


To succeed the Santa Rosa platform will be the Montevina platform, under the product name of Centrino 2, with 533/1066MHz FSB support for the new Penryn processors, namely the Core 2 Extreme(Quad)QX9300, Core 2 Extreme(Duo)X9100, and the Core 2 Duo T9400 and T9600, which all boast 533/1066Mhz FSB.

It has been reported that the X9100, T9400 and T9600 are Socket P, while it is speculated that the QX9300 has been reported Socket P, but may in fact not be Socket P Compatible. This I do not understand. If that were true, would there not have to be another platform released at the same time as the Montevina platform?
If the QX9300 will not be Socket P, and there will not be another platform released along with the Montevina, then the reporting that the X9100, T9600 and T9400 are Socket P must be false and the Montevina platform will have a new Socket type.

The X9000 IS the last Penryn processor for the Santa Rosa platform? Just as the Pentium M 780 was the last processor for the 915PM Chipset and the Core 2 Duo T7600 and the Core Duo T2700 were the last for the 945PM Chipset.

The Nehalem microarchitecture with 45nm technology will be coming out later this year, but will it be used in Notebook computers any time soon?

Now I kind of wish I would have stayed uniformed and half let the salemans make the decision for me. Now I feel that I have a paramount choice to make

How long could I ride the Santa Rosa PM965, with a X9000 and be happy with it? How soon would I regret not waiting for the Monteniva?

The Santa Rosa PM965 / X9000 can never be upgraded.
Maybe the Monteniva will drive the price down enough that I wont care.

 

when finally will monteniva/ WImax platform notebooks come out?

there are rumours that in July new HP pavilion models will be available ( DV4, DV5, DV7), but again Centrinio 2 without wimax and without quad core.

can anybody tell me? I dont understand .whom to beleive, where to find information about this? I was waiting from March and did not buy existing model.

Considering the nature of the delays, I expect people to be able to get a Montevina laptop by late August, if not by September, at the earliest. Remember that not only do the OEMs have to get their systems but they have to build and ship them too. Hopefully, the battery problem will have sorted itself out and won't cause further delays.
