Im sure this isnt normal. At idle this laptop is at 12°C and under a full load its at 30°C. So does anyone know why this is happening? Im pretty sure my cpu isnt running that cool right now considering the ambient temperature is around 15-20°C. Also it was an upgrade in an HP dv9000 from a t5250

idk but maybe only one core is working. but if both are working at full then i would not complain.
-
Are you using a cooling pad? Since I've started using one, my Studio laptop has been showing some unrealistic temperature readings.
-
Have you tried core temp, hw montor and other temperature monitoring softwares.
Try restarting and see if that changes any of the values, those temperatures are impossible to reach if your room temperature is say 68F. You can only get 12F or C, if your room is less than that temperature wise
If you are in doubt, pick up one of these to check real temperatures:

However, there is no way that a CPU can be running at 8 degrees below an ambient room temperature. Your sensor may be faulty. Or, as KTRON suggested, try other CPU temp monitoring programs. -
Yeah, it's impossible to have core temps below ambient, but K-TRON, surely you couldn't measure core temp with a laser thermometer anyway? (given that it's core, not surface).
Also, on a side note, K-TRON man, you are spoilt for engineering gear, by all accounts =D -
that laptop must be freon coolled.
time to apply for a new cooling patent. -

I have it because it is used to check thermal seals for engines, and so forth, it works well on computers too.

If your T5250 was giving proper and real-world temp readings, then the problem may not be with the BIOS, but the chip itself. Due to the mass-production of Intel CPUs, more than half of 'em are not properly calibrated in the factory, so they show weird temp readings.
You can try and get an idea about the CPU temps by looking at the ACPI THZ temps in HWMonitor or Everest. -
I'm not sure what is going on with my chip, but as Andy said, that's
probably, they are not properly calibrated, because I have got 5C
to 10C difference in temperature between cores.
Always the core # 1 is cooler although both cores are loaded the
same way. -

Use the SIW tool. Its the best for me to check the temperatures.
You can download from here.

Thanks for this tool, however my AV blocks downloading and says it's
a trojan. I will try later. By the way, I use CoreTemp and HWMonitor to
read the temps. -
-
Everest gives me my hottest readings and I've noticed a similar pattern on other computers. From what I understand a 5*C difference between cores isn't an issue as one may be more stressed than the other.
You can get a basic thermal laser gun for $10 and when I first got it I ran around the house checking the temps of everything like a kid, so be pre-warned. -
I put the hard drive from my dv6500t into this dv9500t and the sensor seems to read right. It reads around 30°C idle and 50°C load ( well light load )
