Wikipedia says this chip is socket P and has a 1066MHz FSB, does this mean it can be run at a 1066MHz bus on a 965 chipset?

I think it can only run at Montevina (P45M) platform, not PM965.....Or u mean desktop 965 chipset?

Your laptop only supports a FSB of 667MHz and 800MHz.

the CPU itself can do up to 1066mhz but theres no point if the chipset can only communicate at 667mhz

X9100 is only good for the montevina platform

This is not about 'my' laptop, this is about the PM965 and GM965 mobile chipsets in general.

Intel has released the x9100, which is socket P and has a 1066MHz FSB. It must work in the current cipsets, otherwise why would Intel release a CPU that has no compatible chipset

i think the penryn core extreme only works on special 17" motherboards (santa rosa still)

you dont really see this processor around much

Incorrect, the Penryn XE will work in any mobile 965 chipset, regardless of system size. Whether or not it will be able to deal with the extra heat is another matter.

It might work if the 965 could overclock to a 1066MHz FSB, which isn't that unlikely.
