Well I was looking for a notebook for college, but right now just doesn't seem like the time to buy, with the Merom processor just around the corner, it looks like a good idea to wait for a little while.

My question is this, will the Merom processors work with the current Core Duo platform (NAPA)? I read somewhere that it would, which would mean Core Duo laptops currently 64 bit capable... Is this correct?

Anyways my main thought was that I could get something with the cheapest Core Duo now, and when I want to upgrade/if I get windows Vista I could upgrade to a Merom Processor.

I also just heard about the Santa Rosa platform, any thoughts on that vs Napa? Worth waiting for or will it not make that much difference with the Merom?

Yes the will fit in todays laptops, but only if the cpu is removable (some manufacturers' arent) and if there is an upgraded bios that will support the new merom. But no, current core duos are NOT 64 bit.

Be advised that such an upgrade will void ur warranty, so do so at ur own risk
