I have a Inspiron 9400 Core Duo 1.83Ghz; 1GB RAM DDR2 667Mhz, 80GB HDD with 256MB GF 7800.
My questions are:
1. Can I upgrade the processor on my Core Duo to a Core 2 Duo processor?
2. Are the new 9400(C2D) using same board or different boards from previous 9400(CD)? (same chipset/not)
3. Is there any alternative place to get a 7950 GTX for my 9400, other from Dell?
Thanks...

More memory or a faster hard drive will give you a bigger performance boost. Might want to look on eBay.

Yes, you can upgrade your processor. The chipset and motherboard has not been altered since you bought your notebook, and now. The only thing it may requir is a BIOS update, which you should be able to fid on the Dell wesbite. having said that, the processor you have now is still very capable, and unless you are doing tasks such as video editing or encoding, then a processor upgrade will not help.
As ZaZ has said, looking into a new hard disk or more RAM will generally yield a better performance increase, rather than a processor upgrade.
