I have a core duo T2500 in my acer 8204. I'm wondering if the socket is compatible for a possibly upgrade to a Core 2 Duo chip in the future when they get significantly faster.

Would it be worthwhile to do this upgrade?

If you upgrade, what are you going to do with the old CPU?

I dont think I'll get a new one, it's not worth it now since there isnt much advantage coming from .16ghz and they're still really expensive.

Well, it may sometime be worth it if/when you need 64 bit applications. By then you might want a new computer anyway, but you never know.

I might get a T7200 along with a new keyboard for my laptop (sig) because it will be a much cheaper alternative to futureproofness than a new notebook (and I'm rough on keyboards).

Well, you could upgrade tp current Core 2 Duos, but I dont see the need. Microsoft have announced 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, and the transition will not happen for another few years. With the same 667Mhz and 557Mhz FSB speeds, there is no need to cash out $200 or so on a new CPU.

A new, faster HDD or more RAM would be a MUCH better upgrade.
