The Core Solo would be the faster processor, becuase it uses a more efficient core. It can do more processing and calculations tha the Pentium 4 can in one cycle, which means it doesn't need such a clockspeed like 3.2 GHz to be fast. More multitasking, both will be about the same, because both have one core, however, if your Pentium 4 is HT compatible, then it may be slighty better.

SuperPI is not a good test since prccessors with larger cache will yield better results. A typical example is where lowly clocked core (2) duo will beat many AMD FX pcocessors but other synthetic benchmarks shows otherwise.

The core solo 1.83 vs p4 3.2 will be very similar in performance.

    Not really.

The Core Solo 1.83ghz will be faster than a P4 at 3.2ghz.

The P4 is not efficient at all, and use pure clock speed to make up for that.

SuperPi is a useless benchmark, I don't know why it is used to compare performance.

The Core-based processor is far more efficient, that's for sure. It should also be faster, but for general usage either is fine. Which feels faster to you?

Maybe its time to remove SuperPI in future reviews and the sticky is just promoting it...

Here is some more info on P4 equivalence.

P4 3.2Ghz according to my math from the quoted guide. Just note the sticky is somewhat out of date for the core duo's. They would yield even greater performance than stated because more apps are utilising both cores as time goes by.
