In the end, I plan on upgrading the CPU to a high-class Merom chip anyway, but given that most of my apps are not multi-threaded and the T1350 is about 100MHz faster, will the additional core of the T2300 make a large difference in the next couple months? Apps I use:
Windows Media Player
Internet Explorer
Halo PC
Half-Life 2 (CS:S, DOD:S)
Unreal Tournament 2004
Battlefield 2
MS Paint...
Notepad...
I haven't been able to find any benchmarks for the new Solo processor, or really any that stack the Solos against the Duos. As you can see, I don't do much that is demanding - BF2 being the most demanding. I just configured a notebook I am going to replace my current one with and I'm getting 1GB RAM and a 7900GS for less than I paid for mine...
Danke!

Overall, the T2300 will be better.
If you are definitely upgrading to Merom in a couple of months, you could probably get by with the solo.
I didn't think it was 100% confirmed that Merom was a direct swap for Yonah/Solo, and if your manufacturer doesn't offer it in the model that you are buying, you might not be able to get a Merom BIOS for it, and you might be stuck with whatever you bought now (although you could upgrade it to Yonah then, I guess). -
I agree with Tiger. The T2300 will be better for your use. Its extra core will definately add a little spped to Windows, and its not really too much slower (in single threaded apps) than the T1350. 100 Mhz won't make a great deal of performance difference.

I'd also swing for the T2300. While the Core Solo is very similar to an equivalently clocked Pentium-M (plus 5-10%), the T1350 runs on a slower FSB. All Txx50 chips run on a 533MHz bus versus 667MHz for the for the Txx00 models.

Go with Core Duo T2300. The price for T2300 is getting cheaper. For office applications / internet you won't notice big difference between both, but while you're running multiple applications at the same time, core duo is way better.

The price difference between the Solo processors and the T2300E is very slim, so go with a Duo.
The Core Duo T2050 and T2250 are lower-priced than the T2300E and are worth considering. -
Id like to see this cleared up, as it will make a huge difference later. I will be upgrading my cpu, and my choices are either a beefey merom(choice 1) or a 2.0+ core duo. Its only a matter of time and whether or not I can upgrade to merom.
Core Solo T1350 - vs - Core Duo T2300
