Is core solo compatible with socket 479? the one that was for Pentium M and Celeron M.

I have heard of a couple odd situations (like wiith non-Intel chipsets) where people have claimed it works, but I've never seen it work or tried it myself. So almost certainly no.

    I'm actually using Celeron M 550 in one of my test 5920Gs (Intel chipset; T5xxx, T7xxx, T8xxx, T9300 C2Ds stock).

Edit: My bad, 5920G is 478-pin socket P, so not relevant.

well i have well specs Pentium 4 machine that would work well for selective/light gaming and media such as hd movies and music. well after some reading and conversation i found out the pentium m is notably better than a pentium 4 with WAY WAY less heat and power which helps me out since my water cooling system bit the dust.

that makes more sense when you realize i bought one of these puppies, Asus' CT-479 Pentium M socket adapter - The Tech Report - Page 1 an a Pentium M 760, ARK | IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® M Processor 760 (2M Cache, 2.00A GHz, 533 MHz FSB)

Then I remembered the Core series prior to Core 2 and i thought i had remembered some of the compatibilities being "fuzzy".

I'm sure overclocking the s out of the M 760 will help performance any ways.

I dont think pentium 4 laptops are compatible but at the time the pentium M was beating desktop overclocked pentium 4s.

    I got 2.35ghz out of my Acer 1694WLMi with 760 pentium M.

Actually i think there are, i have one of those newer BioStar boards with the DDR2 and PCIe (skt478) and i think it put a P4m in it, the same P4M worked in the old dell mobo that was in the machine before. the cool thing is HD youtube and video is decoded on the video card so weather it be a Pentium 4 desktop or mobile or even a Pentium M it can be fun project ot tinker with an be usable for an HTPC machine with some games.

In the archives and google searches i've seen Yonah being referred to as a souped up Dothan. Dothan and I think Banias were Pentium Ms and Celerons of single core nature. Core solo on the other hand doesn't exist, what does exist is a Core Duo with a lasered off core, meaning the core series was is truly new architecture at this point but, with a physical identical socket but, electrically different and incompatible with Dothan.

However... I wonder... if just maybe it could be modded to work, kind of like How Ricki Berlin is trying to get Core 2 quads to work on chipsets like the PM965. I guess weather or not the question is remotely relevant is dependent upon weather or not Yonah has an on board IMC or not, which if remember correctly didn't show up till after Core 2.

The thing is, even if you can somehow get this to work, the benefit seems questionable at best, given that the fastest Yonah Core Solo is basically only as powerful, if not marginally less, than the fastest Dothan P-M. I can see a little bit of merit in doing a 965 C2Q mod, but really not here...

well i already have the fastest Dothan or rather the second fastest overclocked. in fact i'm tempted to post the result here but, it is a desktop despite the Pentium m cpu. this is for the sake of fun and tinkering.

EDIT: Yonah does have SSE3 and with overclocking it might prove a small bit faster than an OCed P-M. Also it is only 32bit like the P-M.

Oh, I didn't realize you were using one of those desktop adapters... the story might be significantly different in that case; compatibility is a lot looser on the desktop side of things. If you haven't just tried it, I think you should. The Core Solos are cheap, and the worst that can happen is that it won't work.

Well i was thinking worst case scenario a short circuit. I'll have to price some on ebay. Yeah it definitely runs different form the Pentium 4 it replaced. I would say it runs smoother.

SKT 478 Pentium 4 to SKT 479 Pentium M upgrade

I got a Core Duo T2050 for cheaper than Core solo @ less than 4 dollars USD.
