my HP (9420) is acting strange.
every time I try to play something from the cd/dvd it starts to stutter.
the stuttering happens even if I'm listening something from HDD and I'm viewing/copying something from the DVD/CD.

when checking the task manager, first core is at 100% and the other is barely getting used. So I guess the problem is related to that.
it's also followed by general drop of performance. even the mouse slows down it's response time...

on the other hand, the problem could be diferent drivers, cards...etc etc.
but I find it strange since, I havent experienced something like this on other notebooks I had.

    any solutions? experiences?

It sounds like your drive is in PIO (Programmed Input/Output) mode; that is extremely slow. The drive needs to be set to DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode.

In Windows XP, right-click My Computer and click the Hardware tab. Then go into the Device Manager. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and then right-click ATA Channel 1 and hit properties. Click the Advanced Settings tab and click the ATAPI Cdrom device in the box. At the bottom, check the box Enable DMA. Click OK and you're done.
