Hey guys,
I recently upgraded to a hp dv6-3006tx from my dv5-1139tx. This also meant going up a generation in CPU's as well. The old power inefficient T9400 used to max out at around 60C with a 45W TDP and the newer i5-430m will hit 90C easily and maxes out around 95C (That was the max I got from LinX) and it has a 35W TDP. I know there are cooling system differences as well but I'd say that the dv6 cooling (Fan and vent) is much better than the dv5's. This same model also has i7 options and I'd hate to know how hot it would get with a 45W TDP processor in there...
What's the deal? Is this normal? Seems real high.
Thanks for either easing my stress or letting me know my computer will soon be on fire...![]()

Some thing is really wrong with the cooling system. It has to be atleast 20-25C cooler(than 95C).Give hp a call and see!

T9400 is 35W, not that it accurately reflects power consumption. What were your system specs before and after (GPU)? What happens when you stress your GPU? The cooling system is typically linked, so make sure that vents are clear too. All else is fine then likely poor contact between CPU and heatsink.

Thats hotter than my C2D T7400 (65nm).
Something must be wrong with the cooling. -

95C is on the hot end but the i5s are fine up to 105C and as well as it is not throttling or too hot to touch then it really isn't a problem. From what I have seen i5s go up to 80-90C in every notebook. The C2Ds definitely run cooler than the Core i's from everything I have read and seen.

Either something is wrong, or the HP has a terrible cooling system.
Have you read any reviews? Is this common for that model? -
i'm not suprised.. the Dv5 has a horrible cooling system and Dv6 is no better... the only reason i wouldn't ever buy hp is becuase the cooling systems on their laptops is crap.. and driver support is horrendus..

Also the tests are done at 10-15C ambient. -
-
Well its also hotter than my T7500@72C max-30C ambient ,obviously uved!
-
Its the same with my dell studio 15.. peaks at 95 C when playing games!

Got around to putting some AS5 on there. Not a big difference, it now hits 88C under LinX. Must just be these chips.
-
Yup, i5 is a giant step backwards in thermals compared to C2d imo, even an X9100
-
For reference, I can touch 90C when I OC my 35W E0 C2D by 20%. 82-85F ambient.
