    Hey all,
I have a few laptops at home. (All Dell Latitude E series)
The oldest of my laptops is an E6410. It has an i5-540m processor. 8GB of Ram and a Samsung 840 EVO SSD.
It had been running Windows 8.1. Recently I flattened it and loaded Windows 7 Pro. (Running Windows 2008 Domain at home)

I noticed that the laptop runs hot. Much hotter than I remember it under Windows 8.
When I run CPUz it shows the processor running at 3059 MHz. This processor is a 2.53GHz processor. So it is running in the Turbo range for the processor. The laptop does this on a clean boot. When I run resource monitor it shows maybe 2-6% CPU usage, but the processor still runs at 3GHz. My other laptops are newer Sandy and Ivy Bridge processors. They tend to run at 700MHz until needed to go higher.
I am running the latest Intel chipset drivers.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

If it's running 2-6% usage whether it's running at 800MHz or 3GHz it doesn't matter. It's still only 2-6% CPU utilization. For a machine that old, I would recommend repasting the CPU and your temps will go down significantly.
