    Hi,
I'd like to buy Sony VAIO F CTO,I can afford little more bucks, but I'm confused, should I upgrade RAM to 8GB DDR3 and keep processor Core i7-740QM, or should I upgrade processor to Core i7-840QM and RAM to 6GB DDR3?

    What do you suggest?

ops nm miss read lol. Upgrade ram i guess. If your upgrading cpu only upgrade to 940XM. Otherwise not worth it. You can just use seetFSB to overclock ur 720 to 840 speeds

EDIT: lol i think i read it right the first time. Are you buying this or upgrading current laptop? If your buying a laptop thats stupid to be honest. Get a SB laptop. Slowest SB beats 940XM stock and is far more efficient. plus it has an on-die gpu that gets 5kish in 3rdmark06 lol

There are benchmarks that show more than 4GB of RAM do very little, 6GB's give you a bit more performance than 4GB and 8GB does nothing compared to 6GB. 8GB is just for bragging rights.

So the obvious choice is the Core i7-840QM + 6GB DDR3.

All depends on what you are doing. Upgrading to an 840QM and 6 GB RAM isn't going to get you more FPS in Solitaire.

I suggest you wait 2-3 weeks because of all the next generation equipment that just came out.

Such as the new second generation i3, i5, i7 processors from intel (sandy bridge, SB) and some new GPUs from AMD as well as from Nvidia. The first new laptops are supposed to be released in the next couple of weeks.

Especially if you use your laptop on battery, the new intel processors will really improve the performance and running time.

In particular, if you are after the Sony VAIO F, take a look at this page:

The 2630QM is more powerful than either the 740QM or the 840QM (it has a new and improved architecture as well as a higher clock speed). It should also give you substantially more battery life.

It's still faster than the 425M they offer with the 2010 VAIO F, but yes, not the best GPU for gaming. However, Sony's machines tend to be customizable so they might let you get a better one if you pay more.

Their CES marketing personnel said in about one month or so. But you don't have to wait for Sony -- these CPUs will be in a whole lot of new laptops in the next few weeks.
