Tried to find an answer to this question on this board, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I'd like to know, what is the difference between the Corsair Value Select memory and the equivalent but more expensive 'normal' memory? I assume it is a performance difference...but what will the end user notice?...and which is the better one to buy when considering value to performance? Sorry if the question has already been asked.

This is a great question, almost every memory brand does this same exact thing. It's really confusing to the end user. There really is no reason to buy the higher end unit though. For the nromal user, the value brand is fine, you'll notice zero difference. These companies make money off buyers who want to have the best components, though they add little value, so hard core gamers and such will overpay for the brand. I'm simplifying the issue really, some people will benefit from the slightly better performance, but that number has to be in the 1% range.

Thanks Brian! It sounds to me like the comparison made between normal P4's and the Extreme Edition P4's. Thanks once again for the straightfoward answer.

I concur.... I just view memory as a commodity product and they all do the same thing regardless of brand-name. You're paying more for a name. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these companies just take the generic product and then slap their brand name on there (ie, Kingston, Corsair, etc...) and mark-it up.
