Hi,
I bought a used samsung 830 recently and i would notice sometimes i would get a blue screen error which would restart the laptop
the previous user used it with a mac, so ii re-formatted it to work with windows and i still sometimes get this bluescreen restart.
this is the error report i get once the computer restarts itself folowing the bllue screen:

I spoke to samsung helpline and they said to use the 830 software and do a 'secure erase'
so i tried this but it wouldnt let me stating:
The selected drive is in a Frozen State.
To continue with Secure Erase please follow the directions below:
Do not switch the computer off during the process.
1. Open computer casing.
2. Disconnect the SATA power cable from the SSD, then reattach after a few seconds.
3. Restart the application by typing 'SEGUI0.exe' and then proceed.
Press any key to continue
So i disconnected the ssd from the bay, there were no SATA cables as it plugged straight into the laptop/port
I tried again and thiS time it done the secure erase. So re-installed Win7.
But i done this yesterday and have had the blue screen unexpected restart/crash again.
I have noticed this 99% of the time happens when i close the laptop lid down and leave the room for a bit and when i come back it has already restart with the warning alert that it had restarted ^^^
i think a few times in the past it done the bluescreen when i was doing something on the laptop but this is rare
So does anyone klnow why its doing this fault?
I can return it to Samsung for them to check it but this will take weeks and i need my laptop, so was hoping there was something i could do to fix it

Sounds like a sleep issue. Does it crash when you try and sleep as well? Leave the lid open and try that?
Also might be worth trying to use 'whocrashed' on the dump files, the BSOD codes I don't understand but who crashed will pick up which program caused it. -
thanks Denni for the suggestion,
No it doesn't crash when i put the laptop to sleep.
I used 'whocrashed' and this was the report i got:

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. No offending third party drivers have been found. Consider configuring your system to produce a full memory dump for better analysis.
Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.
Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.
So if the USB port/driver is the cause, how do i change the USB port driver? As I can only see one ASUS driver for the USB ports?
here is a screenshot of my device manager which shows the usbs:
Should i disable/uninstall any of the items under the USB section?
I can also 'update driver software' and 'scan for hardware changes' , but i dont want to do this to the wrong item on the list,
or can i update/scan for new drivers on all 7 items under the USB controllers heading?
I have an ASUS A52F which only has 3 USB ports

Ok, so u recently installed an 830... did you do it in ahci mode? Have you tried using Asus chipset drivers for your model?

I am not really an expert on dump files tbh :/
You have any USB devices plugged in during sleep?
Like david says, update your chipset driver as well (with one from your computer manufacturer website) and see if that helps.
From what I read online, its a usb device not sleeping/waking properly causing the BSOD.
Could be a motherboard issue, have you updated your BIOS as well?
I assume all your drivers are up to date as well (you get them from asus support website I assume). A bad driver could cause it as well. Otherwise could be motherboard issue at worst -
no, no USBs are plugged in when it crashes/bluescreen
I think ive found a solution, i've turned off the 'sleep' that normally happens agfta 30minutes of inactivity, now when i return to my laptop it is still in active mode and im yet to return to it restarted/crashed
its obviously the process of going to sleep thats causing the bluescreen/crash, so now it doesnt go to sleep it cant crash
im not sure why the USB were flagged as a problem as i've plugged in and out the iphone several times with no crash or bluescreen, but if i let the computer go to sleep, 50% of the time it crashes
but still, looking at my screenshot of my drivers for the usb, are they any i should remove, 7 drivers for 3 usbs seems impractical
thanks for all the sugesstions
Could my Samsung 830 SSD be causing this error/blue screen restart?
