Some things to look forward to:

    1) The new 100~ GB disc will have the ability to hold 33GB/layer (up from 25GB).

    2) More efficient H.265 encoding

    3) 60 fps video

    4) HDR/Dolby Vision

    5) Wide-gamut 10 bit color

    6) 100 Mbps players

    7) 4K downloads from M-Go for storage on your NAS, PC, etc.

And yes, you will need a new player, but it will be backwards compatible.

This would be all good but if you don't have the equipment to view it this is all wasted technology. There is more then just the Media and player itself for entertainment playback. Miss part of the setup and forget about the playback quality viewing.

Actually, this is consistent with past product introductions: the displays come first. $k TVs have been out for a while now. Next come the player and the media. 4K TVs have been decreasing in price and selling very well. And come this fall, we will finally have the content to maximize its capability. Also keep in mind that the 4k player disc player is also a blu-ray player.
